PHARMACOGENOMICS (UGR)
This COPHELA course is a first step towards specialization in Pharmacogenetics and Pharmacogenomics (PGx). The topics have been selected thinking in the implementation, specially in community pharmacy. This course provides the competences that pharmacists should have according to the International Pharmaceutical Federation. Upon completion, pharmacists would be ready to implement a service or a research project with the aid of a mentor.
The course is structured in 4 modules and each of them in lessons. Each lesson presents a specific aspect in the form of a video of approximately 6-8 minutes. Modules also contain readings and self-assessment tests. Slides and transcripts can be obtained as indicated.
Modules:
1. Understanding Pharmacogenomics. An overview of the fundamentals and terminology (Genes and genetic variants. Variant phenotypes. Annotations. Actionable pharmacogenes, etc.)
2. It’s time to start. An introduction of how to implement Pharmacogenomics and Pharmacogenetics in pharmacies and hospitals. CCPIC platform, PharmGKB platform.. PGx reports and information leaflets. Family health history, etc).
3. Examples in Clinical Practice. Examples of diverse diseases and drugs we have been working on (Cancer, Leukemia, Pediatric oncohematology. Astha. Diabetes. Psoriasis, etc.)
4. A little bit of methodology. A brief description of some key methods for analysis and research (DNA extraction and quantification. Genotyping with real-time PCR. Microarrays. GWAS, etc.) -
